Our History & Mission

With our community charter in place for many years, Georgia Heritage Federal Credit Union continues to thrive and grow. Anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Chatham, Effingham or Bryan County is eligible to open an account. We strive to make a difference in the lives of our members, as depicted in this 30-second video. Let us show you how we believe "The Difference is Relationships" in Education, Charity and the Community.

Georgia Heritage Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative that has enjoyed a long, remarkable history as one of the oldest locally owned financial institutions in the area. The Union Bag Federal Credit Union was organized on April 15, 1940, to serve the employees of the Union Bag Corporation working at the Savannah paper factory. In 1966, the Credit Union changed its name to Union Camp Savannah Federal Credit Union to coincide with the new name of its sponsor group. Having remained a single sponsor organization for 59 years, the Credit Union changed its name to Georgia Heritage FCU in 1999 when Union Camp was purchased by International Paper. We expanded further in 2006 when the Credit Union received its community charter, giving us the opportunity to serve anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the Coastal Empire counties of Chatham, Effingham and Bryan.

The Credit Union's original building continues operations at 1085 West Lathrop Ave. in Garden City, in front of International Paper. In 2012, we opened our Pooler branch at 102 Park Ave., in front of Publix on the Pooler Parkway. That branch was named "2013 Business of the Year" by the Pooler Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau. In 2014, our third branch was opened in the Stephenson Executive Center, located at the corner of Stephenson Avenue and Habersham Street.

We continue to strengthen our brand in the Savannah Metropolitan Area as we work to become a premier financial institution in the 3-county community. Our vision is to build lifelong relationships with everyone we serve. Let us show you "The Difference is Relationships."
